FacultyExtraordinary artists, researchers, and scholars have gathered at Dance at Illinois to create new paradigms for interactions between the professional arena and the academic training ground. Our faculty members have earned a total of six New York Dance and Performance ("Bessie") Awards, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, one London Time Out Dance and Performance Award, two Fulbright Scholarships, and many more prestigious national and international grants and honors. They have founded and directed their own companies, produced their own work, choreographed for dancers such as Mikhail Baryshnikov, and set works on the Royal Danish Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre. As performers, they have appeared with the Paul Taylor Company, the Nikolais Dance Theatre, the Bebe Miller Company, the Miami City Ballet, David Gordon's Pick Up Performance Co(s), David Parker and the Bang Group, the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, A Dance Company. They have published six books, earned distinctions as scholars, presented at national and international conferences, and taught all over the world. Our distinguished educators have received campus teaching and advising awards and regularly appear on the university's list of teachers highly ranked by students. They advance the field by adjudicating American College Dance Festivals and serving on review panels for granting agencies. Our certified movement specialists include Alexander Technique teachers, a Feldenkrais practitioner, a yoga teacher, a Laban movement analyst, and a physical therapist. This diverse collective inspires, creates, leads, finds solutions to global problems, and prepares the next generation of dance leaders.

"You get constant feedback from your professors and fellow students. Having that kind of constant coaching from a place of love and generosity is invaluable, and learning how to receive and use it is crucial for life after academics."

—Whitney Hubbard (BFA 2008), dancer with Von Howard Project and manager for Lululemon Athletica in SoHo, New York City
